What to do????

   BUY, RENT, OR POST LIVING!!!

Here we are again, suffering from which decisions to make ..Our lease is ending in 2 months and we find ourselves scrambbling to figure out what is best for our little family. Yesterday we went on post to talk to housing. As we waited in the lobby with anticipation that we might possibly get a NICE house, I paused to myself knowing how it works, and quickley cleared my mind of such non-scence. Lory the HOUSING SPECIALIST called us back to her office . She sat down and stated to us in a very blunt manner I JUST have one house available in Peterson place (aka GHETTO) and that is all I will have for the YEAR. HMPH..Okay Lory do you not realize we have been on the waiting list for almost 2 years. Not to mention my husband has been in the military for 12 years and served 3 deployments so far. Does that Count? Imagine if you would army housing, OLD army housing, built in the early 1940's . As wayne & I turned onto the road immediatly all warm and fuzzy feelings exited our body. The house was a dueplex. Right when you walked in to your left was a small kitchen then you keep walking into a room about the size of my minivan. This room was for our dinning and living area. It wasn't even big enough to hold my shrunk it was teeny tiny built for the SMURF family of 5 Apparently. Okay the back yard what backyard . it was a 12x12 patch of grass ... POOR SONNY. UGHHHH.... CURSE YOU Ft.Riley Housing. Wayne went back to speak with LORY and explained to her this just would not do for our family. Thank you hunny xoxoxo.... She proceded to tell wayne It's POSSIBLE sometime in AUGUST we could have a home. KEY WORD HERE POSSIBLE...

Option 2:  Manhattan has a fairly nice rental market. Rent is HIGH though and you really don't get what you pay for. We could rent a 3 bedroom ranch style home in a fairly decent neighborhood for 1400.00. We could continue to rent in the neigboorhood we are in but again anything decent will run you around 1400.00

Option3: There is a gentleman in our ward that is a BUILDER. He offered to build us a home in an area we love for a decent mortgage payment. A decent affordable mortgage for us is 1200.00 If we buy that will lock us into Kansas for 6 years. That would provide some stability as far as moving. The Con is we would have 2 mortgages. Yes 2... Although we rent our property in Columbia I still am nervous. Something else that makes me nervous is the market moves real slow here. We could possibly keep the property as another Investment and rent it out. I don't know I don't know I am just Overwhelmed (((((SIGH)))))...

What to do What to do????

Best of luck with your options! August....that feels like forever with out any real promise of housing. Question is could you get a rental agreement that would allow you to bail after 4 months? It might be a little more expensive....

Dang, sorry SARA!! I know it's not fun!! I wish we knew where we were going next so I could start looking for something. Although, I have said I WILL NEVER BUY AGAIN until we're DONE moving. It's such a hassel! I am getting ready to put our house up on the market again. We'll see how that all goes. My neighbors house is STILL up on the market... but then again, they're asking 185,000 for it, so that's probably why! :]
